An anti-litter awareness initiative surrounding dog fouling has taken place in Monaghan Town.
The initiative began following complaints from members of the public in relation to increased dog fouling in areas of Monaghan town including in Belgium Park and Latlorcan.
Environmental Services from Monaghan County Council introduced increased awareness of the dangers of dog fouling in these areas by reminding dog owners of their responsibilities.
The areas in question were visited by the Dog and Litter Warden and promotional material was issued advising dog owners of the Green Dog Walkers programme.
Local councillor Sean Conlon says it's regrettable that this problem is such a serious problem not just in Monaghan but across the country.
The Sinn Fein councillor said it was important to say that the majority of pet owners were very responsible when it came to leaving no trace.
Cllr Conlon said at the end of the day it comes down to personal responsibility, he spoke to Ronan Gargan about the issue.
