LISTEN BACK: Addressing underinvestment in the border region

The border and midlands regions had the lowest levels of disposable incomes pre-pandemic.

Figures from the CSO for 2019 reveal that after tax incomes in the midlands were the lowest nationwide at €17,125.

That's almost €5,000 less than the national average of €22,032.

The border region came next, with an average net income of €18,524.

Meanwhile, workers in Dublin have the highest disposable incomes, at just under €25,700.

The Northern & Western Regional Assembly says underinvestment in key infrastructure assets of the Northern and Western Region is likely to have contributed to rising regional inequalities.
