A young Co Cavan man who studies at the University of Limerick has taken an unconventional approach to the ongoing accommodation crisis.
Cavan native, Conor Davidson has decided to live in a converted van rather than pay what he describes as unaffordable rent.
The 22-year-old chemical engineering student at UL, says the decision was driven by the high cost of rent in Limerick.
He says looking back at the decision, it was the right one for him with the costs of rent and now the increased price in fuel also.
Conor says it may not be ideal but he gets to live for free near the campus, so it works out well.
The Co Cavan man said traditional student "digs" were not a viable long-term option for him, adding it's not sustainable to go back to your home county every weekend if you live this far away.
He said if his didn't take up this option he would have been left with no choice but to drop out of the course. Conor joined Ronan Gargan on today's Wider View to tell him more.
