Communication boards were recently installed in 13 playgrounds across Co Cavan, in partnership with Cavan Sports Partnership.
A communication board is a picture symbol board that can be used to enable a non-verbal child to make comments, requests or give a direction.
The user can gesture, point to, or blink at images on the board to communicate with others.

It was funded through the Dormant Accounts Fund and it's hoped the boards can be rolled out in all playgrounds in the coming years.
Dean McElroy is the Senior Sports Inclusion Development Officer at Cavan Sports Partnership.
