It’s an end of an era for people in the wider Virginia area as a popular newsagents locked the door for one last time on Friday evening.
After 80 years in business, Fitzsimons Newsagents located on the prominent Main Street of the town has ceased trading.
The business has deep roots in Virginia since first opening in 1946.
Gerry Fitzsimons and his wife Kathleen opened the store back then and for 56 years, Patricia Fitzsimons has been at the helm.
For many people living in Virginia today, Fitzsimons holds a special place with happy memories for generations of local people.
Over the decades, Fitzsimons became part of the everyday rhythm of Virginia life, a place of conversation, a friendly chat, papers, toys and other supplies along with that all important community connection.
As Patricia Fitzsimons and Bernie move to the next chapter in their lives, their family have left a lasting legacy that will be remembered for generations to come.
Patricia was speaking with Ronan Gargan on Friday when she was just about to lock the door one final time.
