Aontú Senator Sarah O'Reilly has made an impassioned plea on behalf of local radio stations who she says are facing a shock hike of thousands of euros in broadcasting levies.
Senator O' Reilly said this news this week has come like a bolt from the blue for so many local radio stations.
She highlighted in the Seanad that her own local station Northern Sound is like a community across the airwaves and she said these extra expenses is an attack on the work that local radfio stations do.
The Broadcast levy for small Radio Stations will increase by 39% and the local senator siad in some cases that translates to as much as €14,000.
The Cavan Senator small local radio stations are doing great work on a shoestring budget and this increase could put them on the road.
She is calling on the Media Minister Patrick O'Donovan to intervene immediately. Sarah joined Ronan Gargan on the Wider View earlier.
