North East Musical & Dramatic Society (NEMS) is set to bring the Irish Premiere of the award-winning musical Dear Evan Hansen to the stage of the Íontas Theatre, Castleblayney, from April 22nd to 25th.
Best known for its runs on Broadway and the West End, where it won multiple Tony Awards and Olivier Awards, Dear Evan Hansen has become one of the most important and talked-about musicals of the last decade.
Set in today's digital world, Dear Evan Hansen tells the story of a socially anxious teenager who, through a series of events, finds himself at the centre of a story that spirals beyond his control. The musical explores mental health, anxiety, loneliness, social media, family relationships and the universal human need to belong - themes that are incredibly relevant in today's society for young people and adults alike.
Speaking about the production, the NEMS team said that this is a particularly special show for the society to bring to the stage. "This is a very important and very human story. It's about connection, about being heard, and about the pressures young people face today in a world dominated by social media. While it is a musical, at its heart it is a very real and very relevant story, and we feel it is one that many people will relate to."
The production features a talented cast and production team from across the region and beyond.
Gavin Quigley founder of the society along with cast member Jenny McCabe joined Ronan Gargan on the show earlier.
