This October the sacred relics of renowned 7th century Irish martyr Saint Kilian return to his home county of Cavan for the first time. The relics currently reside in Würzburg in Germany.
Moreover, this major religious and civic event is, according to the chairperson of the Relics Visitation Committee, very much a homecoming of the Mullagh native.
Dozens of local pilgrims as well as a delegation from Cavan County Council recently visited Würzburg in Germany. The reason for the visit was to attend the annual two-week event in July called the Kiliani-Volksfest.
Indeed, the major religious and civic event is being organised in partnership between the Diocese of Kilmore; the Parish of Mullagh and Cavan County Council, and is to run from October 1st to October 6th.
It marks the first time the relics will have left Germany in 1,400 years.
Chair of the Relics Visitation Committee, Cllr Shane P O'Reilly joined Ronan Gargan on the Wider View to discuss the plans ahead of this major event.
