A talented apprentice from Monaghan is celebrating after being named one of the top ten finalists in this year's Screwfix Trade Apprentice competition.
Emma Scott, aged 23, who is currently studying Carpentry and Joinery at Dublin College Dun Laoghaire, fought off strong competition from more than 3,000 applicants from across the UK and Ireland to secure a coveted place in the national final and the chance to take home a career-boosting prize bundle of tools, training and technology worth €10,000.
Since starting her journey in Carpentry and Joinery, Emma aims to inspire girls to enter the trade and hopes to establish her own business while mentoring apprentices.
Her inspiration began during a school trip to a cabinet factory, and years later, she now works there. Currently, Emma is rebuilding her own home and enjoys making custom dog beds and children's chairs.
