LISTEN NOW: Local Irish Dancing teacher on the ‘Let Our Children Dance’ campaign

With an announcement expected this evening in relation to the easing of restrictions, there is one group that is hoping it will see them return to their sport.

A local Irish Dancing teacher is one of many nationwide taking part in the ‘Let Our Children Dance’ campaign.

Earlier this week the group published a video online showing children across the country dancing in their homes in a bid to encourage the government to allow dance classes under Level 3 restrictions.

The video was put together by well-known Irish dancer David Geaney and while all disciplines are acknowledged the aim is to have Irish dancing recognised as an elite sport.

France Brogan, runs Scoil Rince Ní Bhrogáin in Emyvale, and she says that in her classes there are dancers who have won championships and are as committed as gymnasts, who are being allowed to train.

Our report Sheila Naughton spoke to Frances about the campaign and what it would mean to be allowed to train again.
