Have you ever thought about setting up your own business in the region? A step like that could seem huge especially when you would be competing with the big companies and businesses in Cities throughout the country.
Well, Annemarie and Stephen Ward are the brother and sister who took the risk and set up Matilda's Bakery in Carrickmacross, replacing their family butchers with a kitchen and cafe.
Since 2013 they have built up a reputation of supplying the people of Carrickmacross and surrounding area, and businesses with great breads, cakes, and company in their store.
While both admit that it is difficult and hard work setting up your own business it is possible, and they are now nominated for the second year in a row for Best Bakery in the Irish Independent Retail Awards. Results for this are out on the 14th of August but in the meantime have a listen to the full interview here with Annemarie and Stephen:
