Currently, the government prohibits hedge cutting between March 1st and August 31st. This is under Section 40 of the Wildlife Act 1976.
Moreover, Fine Gael's Winston Bennett believes the date should be brought forward to August 1st.

Furthermore, last month the Irish Road Haulage Association said a lack of hedgerow management on rural roads led to a significant number of road traffic incidents. Cllr. Bennett spoke to Sorcha Burke about the issue.
