Prayers will be said at the Cathedral of St Patrick's and Feilm at 4pm

The 1,800 Ukrainians who have arrived in Co Cavan will gather this afternoon to mark the first anniversary of the invasion of their homeland by Russia.

Prayers will be said at the Cathedral of St Patrick's and Feilm at 4pm and this will be followed by a ceremony at the courthouse which will be lit up in the blue and yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag.

Later an art exhibition by children from Ukraine living locally will take place at Cavan Library. Sergiy Balan is the Chairman of the Ukrainian Association in Ireland and he has been living in Cavan for the last 22 years. He says Ukrainians arriving here are traumatised by war and the death of loved ones. Sergiy added that the generosity of Irish people to Ukraine and its people over the last 12 months will never be forgotten.
