'The likes of Friends in Low Places, Unanswered Prayers, and The Dance - songs like them have become anthems'

The excitement is building across Cavan and Monaghan this evening as the first of five Garth Brooks gigs gets underway in Croke Park.

The global country and western star will perform to over 400,000 people to sell out gigs over the next week.

18.000 tickets for the gigs were sold in Monaghan - out of a population of 58,000.

Cavan country singer says Garth Brooks' influence on the local scene cannot be understated.

Brendan added how much he is looking forward to seeing him perform as he waits in anticipation for the Sunday night gig.

"The likes of Friends in Low Places, Unanswered Prayers, and The Dance - songs like them have become anthems," he continued.

"You have hardcore fans going along to see him to0.

"There are those who are going to these gigs and they will know every single lyric to every single song.

"And to be honest with you, I'm probably one of them."
