There are currently 3,204 people receiving jobseekers allowance and jobseekers benefit across the Northern Sound region.
The figures were released by the Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary, in response to a parliamentary question from Fine Gael TD, John Paul O'Shea.
Casual workers and those claiming credits are not included in these figures.
Deputy O'Shea asked the Minister for a breakdown of the number of people in receipt of jobseeker's allowance and jobseeker's benefit, per Intreo area, and per age group; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
In Co. Cavan, there are 310 people under the age of 25 in receipt of jobseeker's allowance, while 1707 people who benefit are between the ages of 25-54.
Meanwhile, 481 people who receive jobseekers benefits are over the age of 55.
In Co. Monaghan, 131 people under the age of 25 receive jobseekers benefits.
This figure rises to 872 people in the 25-54 category, and 358 in the 55+ category.
According to the figures released by Minister Calleary, nationally there are 118,221 people receiving jobseekers benefits.
Almost 13,000 are under the age of 25.
Over 77,000 are in the 25-54 category, while just over 28,000 are over the age of 55.
