Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD has confirmed more than 6,300 homes have been brought back into active use through €348.6 million in Vacant Property Refurbishment Grants.
A total 14,377 applications for the grant have been approved since the scheme began in July 2022, according to new statistics released today.
A total 6, 312 grant payments have already issued on completion of works.
On average, six previously vacant properties are being brought back into active use every working day across Ireland under the scheme.
The latest statistics show that 872 applications for the grant have been approved across Cavan and Monaghan since the scheme was introduced in July 2022, with €20,740,145 in funding issued on completion of works.
In the second quarter of 2026 alone, 48 grants were issued on completion of works.
Almost 600 applications were made in Cavan to a value of almost over €10 million and in Monaghan there was also over 500 applications to a value of almost €11 million.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator Robbie Gallagher said this clearly shows people are really responding to the vacant and derelict property grant.
He believes restoring properties which have been been for many years into housing is a very positive development and it's great to see the scheme being so successful.
