Airbnb boosts Cavan Monaghan economy by €5m

Airbnb provides authentic and affordable stays for guests in Ireland.

Airbnb boosted Monaghan's economy by €2m last year while the economy in Cavan was lifted by €3m. That's according to the New Oxford Economics report which also reveals that Airbnb supported 40 jobs in Co Monaghan in 2022.

Meanwhile, the total number of guest nights booked on Airbnb in last year was 18,000 in Monaghan while 26,000 guest nights were booked in Co Cavan. Derek Nolan, Head of Public Policy at Airbnb Ireland said the service provides "authentic and affordable" stays for guests in Ireland.

He added that it also drives economic benefits for local families and their communities by generating employment and dispersing tourism across the country. “Airbnb provides authentic and affordable stays for guests in Ireland and drives economic benefits for local Irish families and their communities by generating employment and dispersing tourism across the country," continued Mr Nolan.

"We want to play our part as a key pillar of the Irish tourism economy, and support the introduction of a Host Register to protect Ireland’s tourism; unlock the benefits of hosting for Irish families; and help local authorities to clamp down on property speculators.”
