'Minister Heather Humphreys made the announcement earlier today'

A funding allocation of almost 2 million euro has been awarded between counties Cavan and Monaghan. Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, confirmed to Northern Sound that almost €2 million in funding will be invested in 21 local projects.

Cavan will receive over €1.13 million with projects being delivered in Cavan Town, Virginia, Blacklion, Ballyhaise, Ballinagh, Gowna, Belturbet, and Kingscourt. Meanwhile, Monaghan projects will receive over €835,000. This will benefit communities in Monaghan Town, Carrickmacross, Clones and Ballybay.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Minister Humphreys said today's funding announcement is about "supporting towns and villages" that have shown such "generosity" in welcoming people from Ukraine and other countries.

The projects being announced by Minister Humphreys in Monaghan are:

Rossmore Park, Monaghan Town: €150,000 - A major upgrade to the playpark and car parking facilities. Belgium Park, Monaghan Town: €121, 857 - Upgrade the changing/toilet facilities, MUGA area and other works. Monaghan Harps, Monaghan Town: €7,190 – Provision of Outdoor Handball Area. Carrickmacross: €143,010 - Provision of Bandstand adjacent to the Civic Offices. Carrickmacross: 136,037 – Provision of sensory garden/play area and outdoor educational space at Cloughvalley. Ballybay: €120,000Refurbishment and enhancement of Ballybay Town Park and the installation of play equipment Clones: €120,000 – Upgrade and re-development of the bus stop at 98 Avenue Clones: €37,047 – Provision of Outdoor Exercise Equipment for children at Peace Link Campus

Projects announced for Cavan are:

Cavan Town: €61,000 -  Renovation works to childcare facility in O’Raghallaigh Park. Cavan Town: €55,000 – Purchase a wheelchair accessible vehicle as a community car. Virginia: €100,000 – Tarmac outdoor play area as a MUGA area and sports court which will double as a carpark to benefit the community. Virginia: €25,000 – Provide solar lights around the existing walking/running track at Ramor GAA. Blacklion: €25,650 – Improvement works to Jetty at Lough MacNean Park to provide better facilities for swimmers, swimming lessons and safe access to the war for anglers. Blacklion: €150,000 – Purchase land at Fair Green for development for community use. Ballinagh: €90,000 – Redevelopment of existing picnic and seating area and upgrade of working track in community owned sports pitch. Ballyhaise: €175,000 – Development of Children’s Playground at the community centre. Gowna: €65,000 – Reinstatement and improvement works to walking track at GAA grounds, including upgrading to lighting. Belturbet: €115,000 – Refurbishment of existing playground, installation of new inclusive play and sensory equipment and upgrading of the existing safety surfacing.

Kingscourt: €115,000 – Creation of classroom type training facilities at Railway Station Complex to provide spaces for courses. Shercock: €40,000 – Provide a wheelchair accessible toilet at the running track as well as upgrades to the lighting to improve safety. Cootehill: €115,000 – Improvements to MUGA in Drumnaveil to create a facility for older teenagers. Works also include the expansion of the existing playground to provide a meet up space for older children, freeing up space for younger kids.
