'Alone' urges public to help combat loneliness and social isolation over Christmas

Páraic Duffy is an Alone ambassador and has called on people to "give the gift of companionship".

Alone is urging people to give up some of their time over Christmas to combat loneliness and social isolation.

The national charity that aims to improve the physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing of older people.

The "Alone at Christmas" campaign is offering first-hand advice on how people can end the "silent epidemic of loneliness and isolation among older people".

Monaghan's Páraic Duffy is an Alone ambassador and a former GAA Secretary-General.

He says we "need individuals in the local community to reach out to their older neighbours and give the gift of companionship", and speaking to Northern Sound he explained how people can join in the Christmas campaign:
