Appeal for anyone with information on Belturbet bombing to come forward

Margaret Urwin of the Justice for the Forgotten has appealed for anyone with information.

Gardai today have renewed their appeal for anyone with information in relation to the Belturbet bombing.

Local gardai are following several lines of enquiries into the County Cavan bombing that occurred almost fifty years ago.

At 10:28pm on the 28th of December in 1972 a car bomb exploded outside Farrelly's Bar and McGowan's Drapery on Main Street, Belturbet, in Co. Cavan.

Two children, Patrick Stanley, 16 years, of Clara, Co. Offaly, and Geraldine O'Reilly, 15 years, of Drumacon, Belturbet, Co. Cavan, were killed instantly while eight more people were injured.

Three bombs exploaded that fateful day the first bomb exploded in Clones at 10am and then after the Belturbet Bomb there was a third bomb in Pettigo in County Donegal.

All three bombs exploded within 49 minutes of each other.
