An application for CCTV cameras in Castleblayney is to be submitted to the Garda Commissioner in the coming days.

An application has been developed and Monaghan County Council is in consultation with An Garda Síochana to ensure a high-quality submission is made to Drew Harris.

Last December, the local Joint Policing Committee gave the green-light for the project, with public consultation held in January.

The design of the Carrickmacross CCTV system is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks, after it was delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Cavan's JPC heard continued frustration from members at its latest meeting over delays in getting CCTV systems up and running.

A dispute over who will act as Data Controller of the scheme under GDPR has led to lengthy delays.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris told the meeting that under legislation the Gardaí are unable to act as Data Controller and the responsibility lies with the local authority.
