'We must now await the evaluation of the application'

An application for the Milltown Sewerage Scheme is under consideration by the Department.

Cavan County Council have lodged an application for funding with the Department of Housing and Local Government under a scheme introduced by Minister Darragh O'Brien TD for villages around the country that are un-serviced.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr John Paul Feeley who has been pushing for a proper sewerage system for the village said Milltown is the "only village" without a proper sewerage scheme in the County.

"Since the announcement of the scheme and my tabling of the motion directing the Council to prepare the application a substantial body of work has been completed by the County Council and I want to thank Paddy Connaughton and his staff and Brendan Jennings and the Planning Staff on getting the application together," he said.

According to Cllr Feeley, there has been a "positive response" from the local community in providing letters of support and expressions of interest in connecting to a new system should it be provided.

The overall estimated cost of the project is just over €6 million but this is subject to further evaluation.

Cllr Feeley added that people "must now await" the evaluation of the application and that "every effort must continue to be made" to secure this essential investment.
