The appointment of Katherine Zappone as a UN Special Envoy will be scrutinised at an Oireachtas Committee later.
Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney will be quizzed on his decision to create the role and offer it to the former Children's Minister without it being publicly advertised.
The meeting will also hear an update on the situation in Afghanistan.
