Calls for new government to reverse decision to block frontier workers from accessing PUP

There are calls for the new government to reverse the decision to block frontier workers from accessing the Covid unemployment payment.

Sinn Fein MEP for the Midlands North-West Chris MacManus was speaking after he was told by the EU Commission that it can be done.

The Sligo based representative, who replaced Matt Carthy in Europe, said it was “deeply disappointing” that the previous government didn’t make the payment available to all workers regardless of where they lived.

In a statement, McManus called on the new coalition government to back-pay all those who have gone months without unemployment supports, telling Shannonside Northern Sound that he wants equality for all workers on the island:
