A 58-year-old father of three has died following a farm accident in Carigallen, Co. Leitirm. John Harkness, a dairy farmer from Aughavore, fell off the roof of an outbuilding yesterday.
Gardaí, the fire service and the Health and Safety Authority all attended the scene and a post mortem has now been carried out. The HSA confirmed to Northern Sound they have launched an investigation into the incident.
Mr Harkness' grief-stricken wife contacted Northern Sound earlier. She said they were "heartbroken" and people should be "made aware" as she doesn't want any other family to go through the "agony" her family is feeling now. Paula Harkness said "It was a tragic farm accident and tell people to be careful". Mr Harkness leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
