A local charity is celebrating World Down Syndrome Day tomorrow and encouraging people to wear odd socks.
Hub21 in Carrickmacross is a service that offers support to children with Down Syndrome and their families in Monaghan, Cavan, Louth, Meath, Armagh and beyond.
Some services offered include therapeutic activities, social activities, events as well as support and resources.
Currently the group is hosting its first ever Down Syndrome Awareness exhibition "Grow, Thrive, Shine" in the Carrickmacross Civic Offices and Library.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Hub 21 manager Caitriona Crosby encouraged everyone to mark World Down Syndrome Day by wearing odd socks: "Every year World Down Syndrome Day takes place. For the Down Syndrome community it's a visual to show that you are supporting and celebrating the day and also raising awareness.
"Socks are chosen because chromosome under a microscope look a bit like socks and a person with Down Syndrome has three copies of the 21st chromosome so by wearing colourful bright socks you are showing everyone that you are supporting this awareness day and it's a way that everyone can join in because socks is an easy way to do it."
