A Carrickmacross woman says her childhood cancer diagnosis inspired her to train as a nurse to help others.
Ciara Downey was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2011 and has recently qualified as a nurse, with plans to specialise in childhood cancer.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, with a number of fundraising events and information sessions planned for families.
Ciara says the awareness week can be so beneficial to a family to help them understand what supports are available to them.
She told Northern Sound that her own journey motivated her to work in healthcare.
