Local TD Matt Carthy has condemned the violent incident that occurred in Citywest in Dublin last night.
The Chairperson of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration said the scenes that were seen last night are unacceptable.
Five men appeared in court this afternoon charged in connection with the incident.
A female Garda, who was injured in the incident, has been treated and discharged from hospital.
Gardaí say they are continuing to investigate, with a full policing and security operation still in place.
A criminal investigation into all the circumstances of this violent disorder is underway under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer.
Gardai say peaceful protests do not involve persons arming themselves with weapons or burning Garda vehicles.
