Fr Alfred Deignan spent 65 years in Hong Kong.

A Catholic university is China has launched an award for responsible entrepreneurship in memory of a late Cavan Jesuit priest.

Alfred Deignan was born in Mullagh in 1927 and was sent to Hong Kong by the Society of Jesus at the age of 25, when he was a priest in training.

He went on to spend 65 years in Hong Kong, mostly as an educator, and passed away in December of 2018.

The Macao Ricci Institute at the University of Saint Joseph, in Macao, and Wofoo Social Enterprise, launched the award last week in memory of the Cavan native.

The awards celebrate SMEs in both Hong Kong and Macao that stay true to ethical business practices.

The awards are also described as an opportunity to "commemorate the inspiring mission in education and social service of Fr. Alfred Deignan".
