Cavan agriculture contributes €1.2bn to economy

Agriculture in Cavan contributes over €1.2 billion to the local economy according to the IFA. The total agricultural land area in Cavan is 341,000 acres and is predominantly grassland.

According to research carried out by the Irish Famers Association, average farm sizes in Cavan stand at 51 acres. There are over 10,000 people employed in the county either directly or indirectly through agriculture.

Over 25 per cent of the working population are involved in Agri-related jobs in Cavan. The average age of a farmer in Monaghan is 57 and there are 5,111 individual family farmed within the county of Monaghan.
