He says there needs to be greater support for local Tidy Towns groups and those who work to keep Cavan litter free.

A Cavan Councillor is calling for an end to "light touch" fines for people convicted of dumping.

Shane P O'Reilly also said there is a need for Cavan County Council to increase its budget to employ additional litter picking staff in the Ballyjamesduff area.

He told a recent MD meeting that there needs to be greater investment from all sectors to support the work of local Tidy Towns groups and those who work to keep Cavan litter free.

The Independent representative for Mullagh referenced a specific incident and asked why someone found guilty of dumping doesn't have to foot the clean-up bill.
