Shane P O'Reilly says the ambiguity and confusion over current public health measures is adding to an already tense situation and this move should be made regardless of today's meeting outcome with Minister Foley.

The government party leaders have agreed schools should reopen as planned on Thursday.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar and Transport Minister Eamon Ryan discussed the issue at their meeting earlier.

Talks are ongoing between teachers' unions and the Education Minister over the Covid safety measures in place.

ASTI President Eamon Dennehy says staggering the reopening would help ease the pressure on schools.

Shane P.O'Reilly  says keeping children away from in-person teaching for another few days could prevent further outbreaks.
