Cavan County Council has decided not to hold a special meeting to hear from potential presidential hopefuls.
Cathaoirleach John Paul Feeley says there is no realistic prospect of a candidate securing its support.
He believes that these meetings risk wasting valuable time and possibly disrespecting people putting themselves forward if there is no possibility of securing a nomination.
Some other County Councils around the country have already spent full days hearing submissions.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Cllr. Feeley said Cavan County Council's door remains open, but only if there is a proposer and seconder in the council for a reasonable prospect of a candidate.
Though the time-frame for this is getting tight.
Cllr. Feeley said "I don't want to disrespect people who are looking to be candidates for this, for the office of president, who could be maybe spending their time in a council where there is a prospect of them getting a nomination, if there isn't that prospect there. So, I've gone around, I've spoken to the various groups and members of the council, sounding out to see what the position is. At the moment, I don't see any candidate being in a position to come through if we had a special meeting of the council."
