A Cavan Couple have been honoured for their humanitarian work.
Sinead Fidgeon and Martin McBreen were awarded the 9th ‘Oireachtas Human Dignity Award in recognition of the humanitarian work they carry out on behalf of families of babies born with Down Syndrome.
Sinead noted that so many parents hear the words "I'm sorry" after the birth of a baby with Down Syndrome and there is often a lack of congratulations.
It gave her the idea to deliver baskets to new mothers and babies, which include gifts for both, a personalised letter of congratulations and to welcome them to the Down Syndrome community.
They also offer an online support group to connect new parents and get support.
To date they have delivered over 1000 baskets to every corner of Ireland.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, explained how her daughter Grace was the inspiration for the project.
