A Cavan man working at promoting the Irish language in Monaghan says his home county needs to catch up.
With 11.5 per cent of students in County Monaghan in Irish medium education and 34 per cent of the population describing their Irish as 'good', Monaghan is a strong candidate for the highest level of designation for Irish speaking regions, outside of the Gaeltacht.
Stiofán Ó Connachtaigh is development officer with Muineachán Le Gaeilge. He comes from Cavan.
The gaeilgeoir said when it comes to the Irish languiage in Cavan and Monaghan it's "a tale of two counties".
While Monaghan tops the table in several areas of the Irish language like having the highest number of people in the country who say they use Irish daily, Cavan comes in bottom of the same tables.
