Management at Cavan General Hospital have indicated this evening that the facility is very busy and the Emergency Department is under pressure. It is advising that those who attend the ED with non-urgent conditions will experience "very long" wait times to be seen.
Management says that this situation is becoming "more frequent" and staff are working very hard to treat and care for those who are particularly ill. To help free up beds at the hospital, management are asking patients and families at the point of discharge to accept placements that become available.
The public is being asked to only attend the ED at Cavan General Hospital if their condition is urgent. "Please only attend the Emergency Department if your condition is urgent and needs immediate attention. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter," added the hospital.
