The Chair of Cavan IFA says funding to encourage farmers to grow silage must be fast-tracked.
Yesterday, Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue briefed Cabinet colleagues on a scheme that would see livestock farmers get 100 euro per hectare for sowing fodder - and it would apply for up to 10 hectares.
It’s being done in an effort to prevent a fodder crisis this winter.
The IFA has welcomed the move but says additional supports will be needed to cover increased production costs.
