Cavan IFA Chair calls for fodder grant to be fast-tracked

It’s being done in an effort to prevent a fodder crisis this winter.

The Chair of Cavan IFA says funding to encourage farmers to grow silage must be fast-tracked.

Yesterday, Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue briefed Cabinet colleagues on a scheme that would see livestock farmers get 100 euro per hectare for sowing fodder - and it would apply for up to 10 hectares.

It’s being done in an effort to prevent a fodder crisis this winter.

The IFA has welcomed the move but says additional supports will be needed to cover increased production costs.

Chair of Cavan IFA Maurice Brady says some farmers are already behind on growing.
