A Cavan senator has called for clarity on the availability of insulin therapy at a local hospital.
A number of diabetic children living in Cavan and Monaghan have been forced to undertake long journeys to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to avail of insulin pump therapy.
Sinn Féin's Pauline Tully raised the issue at the Seanad last week, calling for a comprehensive provision of the treatment at Cavan General Hospital.
A reply to a previous query submitted by the senator confirmed the pump therapy service had been expanded to children in Cavan and Monaghan, but was still managed by Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
