'She is focused more on how young teenagers can better look after their mental health'

A 14-year-old Co Cavan teenager has raised €650 for Mental Health Ireland. Grace Brady from Belturbet participated in a challenge during the month of October in an effort to raise awareness around mental health in people her own age.

She aimed to dip in cold water every day in October and in doing so raised the much needed funds for the charity. Grace's mother Geraldine told Northern Sound that Grace is a very conscientious young woman who cares about the world around her.

She added her daughter believes that through awareness everyone can take better care of their own mental health. "Her drive in this was that she felt there needs to be more awareness of mental health in her age group.

"Particularly around the area of building resilience and what can be done on a daily basis to improve mental health. "Whether that be participation in sports, community activities, going walking, or going swimming.

"She was focused more on that than on mental illness and suicide and on how those in that age group can better look after their mental health," added Geraldine.
