Cities around the world start counting down to the new year

Cities across the world have started counting down to the new year, with the first countries ringing in 2024 in the coming hours.
The first places to welcome the new year will be Kiribati and the Christmas Islands at 10am.

Following that, New Zealand will see in 2024. The city of Auckland is expected to put on a fireworks display at the Sky Tower.
Other places to watch throughout the day include Sydney in Australia at 1pm, where 8 and a half tonnes of fireworks will be launched across the span of the harbour, as well as Dubai at 8pm, where pyrotechnics will be set off at the world's largest building - the Burj Khalifa.
