Cllr Aidan Campbell elected as first citizen of Monaghan

He says he's honoured and privileged to take up the position.

Councillor Aidan Campbell has been elected as the new Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council at today’s Annual General Meeting.

Cllr Noel Keelan was elected as the Leas-Chathaoirleach.

Councillor Campbell, representing the Carrickmacross–Castleblayney Municipal District, is a longstanding public representative with a strong record of service to his local community.

Throughout his time on the Council, he has been actively involved in supporting local development, community initiatives, and the delivery of key services across the county.

He takes over the role from Cllr PJ O'Hanlon who served in the role for the past 12 months.

Aidan was first elected as a public representative in the region since 2009 and is married to Alicia and they have two grownup children.

As Cathaoirleach, Councillor Campbell will serve as first citizen of the county. Speaking at the AGM, Councillor Campbell highlighted key priorities for the year ahead, including: Housing & Infrastructure, Economic Growth & Enterprise, Community, Culture & Amenities and Town & Village Regeneration

He says he's honoured and privileged to take up the position and is looking forward to the next year.
