Clones Town FC are set to vote on a proposal later this month to remove the name 'John Delaney Park' from its grounds.
The facility was officially named after the notorious ex-FAI boss in 2013.
An EGM has been called, featuring the motion for 23rd July.
Local man, and former Ireland international Johnathan Douglas said that the vote is a "massive deal".
According to the Clones man, the name has tarnished a little bit of the club, but that it hasn't taken away from the great work that people do in the club.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Johnathan said that the vote is a long time coming:
He said: "I've expressed my views many times with Clones Town. A lot of people know what my views are, it should never have been named after him.
"Clones Town is probably one of the oldest clubs in Ireland. We never really had our own ground. I remember going and watching my father and brothers playing out the Cavan Road, or Largy College.
"To finally get your own ground, it was disappointing to name it after him, especially with all of the people that have come and gone.
"You have great names; The Rooney's, the Flangan's, the Reavey's, Billy Davie, Seán Connolly out of The Roost. These people put a lot of hard work into the club. I felt a lot of disappointed that none of these names were even mentioned," he added.
