A Fashion Show will take place in Doohamlet this Saturday, October 14th in a bid to raise essential funds for the local community centre. The event is one of many fundraising initiatives organised by the local development team to ensure that the popular community centre is protected for future generations.
Brigid A Finnegan is a development worker within the Doohamlet Community Centre.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Ms Finnegan revealed that the local community centre underwent "major redevelopment" back in 2020, having received over €900,00 in investment to date.
According to the Doohamlet native, the centre is at the heart of the local community, and while it has been successful through many grants, the building itself must be maintained to a "high standard."
She believes that this weekend's event will help in doing that, adding that the people of Doohamlet are "very fortunate" to have such a "wonderful community spirit."
"We're very fortunate in Doohamlet, we've a wonderful community spirit and there's an air of great excitement in the area," Ms Finnegan explained. "We've engaged with local people who will all be models at the fashion show and also local shops across Carrickmacross, Ballybay and Castleblayney. A vast amount of work by volunteers has went into organising this event and there's just great excitement here in Doohamlet."
