There's concern the Ulster Canal Greenway from Smithborough to Monaghan town could be postponed because of a funding shortfall.

Sinn Fein Councillor Seán Conlon said the original €5 million of European funding will fall short of the amount required to bring the greenway from Middletown to Smithborough in its entirety.

A motion was passed at the latest Monaghan County Council meeting that all relevant bodies be contacted to request the additional funding be fast tracked to allow work continue.
