Independent candidate Catherine Connolly will become Ireland's tenth President in the coming hours with an overwhelming level of support across the country
Former Cavan/Monaghan TD, Heather Humphreys was trailing well behind the Galway TD from early doors which prompted Ms Humphreys to come on with us on Shannonside Northern Sound earlier to confirm she was conceding and she wished Ms Connolly the very best in her role as President.
Here in Cavan/Monaghan, which of course is Heather Humphreys stronghold, she’s come out on top and bucking her national trend.
The final count which has just been delivered here by returning officer Joe Smith confirmed the following figures Heather Humphreys with a figure of 58.5%.
The big one here is the spoilt vote figure which was 6,423.
Overall there was a 55.4% turnout with the total electorate for Cavan was 59,022 and Monaghan was 48,026 totalling 107,048 .
