A decision to designate Gallows Hill in Carrickmacross as a Biodiversity Area has been heavily criticised by a local councillor.
Councillor Colm Carthy raised the issue a recent meeting of the Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD stating that the area was once well maintained and now due to this decision looks overgrown, unappealing, and is attracting anti-social behaviour.
While he acknowledged the importance of National Biodiversity Action Plan he criticised the executive for making the decision without consultation with members, stating that he felt they knew it would be a contentious decision.
The members of the executive apologised for the lack of consultation on the matter, and councillor Carthy has said he is hopeful it will be better maintained in the new year:
