There was 334 less crimes reported across Cavan and Monaghan last year compared to 2018 according to an Irish Independent analysis released today.

2,528 crimes were reported in County Cavan during 2022 compared to 2,742 in 2018.

Meanwhile, 2,237 crimes were reported in Monaghan compared to that of 2,357 four years previous.

This study found that the highest number of assaults reported were in Cavan Town at 199 and 145 in Monaghan Town during 2022. There was 124 burglaries reported in the County of Monaghan last year compared to that of 108 burglaries reported to Gardai in Cavan.

161 drug related offences were dealt with Gardai in Cavan last year this compares to 154 in County Monaghan. The highest number of crimes reported to Gardai across the Northern Sound region is for public order offences at 547 in Monaghan and 455 in Cavan.

The analysis of crime figures by the Irish Independent reveals that 252 out of a total of 564 garda stations nationwide saw crime levels rise in 2022, while there were 257 stations where crime levels fell during last year. The CSO figures, which are based on offences recorded by the Garda Pulse system, show the overall level of crime rose in 24 of the country's 28 garda divisions last year compared to 2021.
