4,818 people were on the live register across Cavan and Monaghan in February.

Co Cavan has seen the biggest decrease in people in the country on the live register over the past 12 months with a drop of 16.4%. 4,818 people were on the live register across Cavan and Monaghan in February. The Live register records the number of people registering for Jobseekers Benefit, Jobseekers allowance or any other entitlements at offices of the Department of Social Protection. According to the latest CSO figures, 2,750 people in Cavan were on the live register last month. While the number of people accessing the supports in Monaghan were 2,068.

1440 males 1310 females in Cavan were on the live register and 963 females 1105 males were registered for government supports in Monaghan. Nationally, the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for February 2024 stood at 173,982. While, the 35-44 age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register at the end of 2023. The number of Jobseeker's Allowance claims decreased by 5.4% (-6,909) in February 2024 compared with 12 months earlier.
