Over €100 million in CAP payments paid in Cavan and Monaghan

Almost €240 million in CAP payments have been made to farmers or groups across the Shannonside Northern Sound region.

Farmers in Roscommon received the most at over €65 million.

The Department of Agriculture has published the breakdown of every payment made under the Common Agriculture Policy for 2019.

Roscommon farmers received the most in the region, with the county’s LCDC receiving the biggest payment at just under €1.5 million.

€56 million was paid in Cavan with its LCDC receiving the largest payment of just under €2 million.

€45 million was paid in Monaghan. Commercial Mushroom Producers received €3.9 million last year, the second highest single payment in the country.

Leitrim farmers were paid €41.8 million with the local LCDC again receiving the most at €1.2 million.

Longford received the least in the region with €31.5 million paid. Longford LCDC received €1.1 million.

Just under half of monies paid locally was in Direct Payments, with €131 million paid.
