27 community and voluntary organisations across Cavan have received grant aid to deliver events in support of the Cavan Calling homecoming festival this summer. A total of €45,000 in funding has been allocated by the elected members of the local authority to promote cultural events during the festival which takes place from the 26th to the 30th of July this year.
Events planned include ‘A Cavan Convergence’ - a cross-border traditional music event; a Positive Age cultural event; a Family Day at Tullacmongan Resource Centre; an Indian cultural event; and heritage events in Virginia.
Tommy Ryan, Chief Executive of Cavan County Council, said the interest from the community is commendable. He added how "clear" it was, from looking at the quality of successful applications, that the decision to run the event in the first instance, had been vindicated.
"It’s wonderful to see the level of interest from our community sector in taking part in Cavan Calling. The events supported under this scheme will greatly enhance what is already an exciting and engaging programme of events taking place from 26th to the 30th of July.
"I would like to acknowledge the support of our elected members and compliment them on their vision in making funds available for this scheme. I think it’s clear, looking at the quality of the successful applications, that this decision has been vindicated," Mr Ryan said.
